I have one of these which handles 8 stereo inputs (balanced or unbalanced) into 2 stereo outputs. It's basically a 1U line mixer. You mute all channels except the one you want to push through to the amp.
It also gives you a headphone out which is useful if your amp doesn't have one.While running your sources through any device will influence the fidelity you're able to reproduce, there is a trade-off for convenience. I personally find that this bit of gear is pretty transparent, at least in my setup; And you can always patch your gear direct to the amp if you want a serious session.

I've got mixers out the wazoo.I think I have at least 4 that I could use as input expanders, like a Teac model 1, Sound Workshop Logex 8, JVC MI-2000u, and Tascam M30, but I have tried every one of them, and none are as transparent as I would like.I want to do this completely passively, as other than some truly high end professional products, I find that most mixers are not very transparent.
This has to stand up to the most intensive listening sessions and transfers.I could possibly get a couple nice western electric 1/4' patchbays from a friend and use those. You can get TRS RCA adapters. I upgraded all my cables to decent handmade ones with 1/4' TRS terminations. Some of my gear has balanced XLR outs, which I could keep balanced into the Behringer via balanced TRS jacks.
